Former Pakistan cricket team fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has come out in support of Virat Kohli as the current Indian cricket team batter has struggled to play big knocks in recent matches. Kohli has not scored a century since November 2019, while in the ongoing tour of England, he has registered a string of low scores against the England cricket team.

Former Indian cricket team all-rounder Kapil Dev recently compared Virat Kohli’s case to Ravichandran Ashwin and said that if a world number two bowler can be dropped from the Indian cricket team, why not the team management can think of dropping a former world number one batter.

Reacting to the claim made by Kapil Dev, former Pakistan cricket team bowler Shoaib Akhtar said on his official YouTube channel:

“I don’t understand how people could even think about the prospect of dropping Kohli. I respect Kapil Dev, and it is his opinion, he is a legend so he can say it, but no one else can say it.”

Shoaib Akhtar offers full support to Virat Kohli in the tough phase of his international career

With batters like Deepak Hooda performing well at the number three position and the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 fast approaching, the pressure is high on selectors to make a tough call. While some cricket experts have urged the selectors to prefer form over experience, Shoaib Akhtar thinks that Virat Kohli’s achievements make him a great player and it would be wrong to leave him out.

“As a Pakistani, I support Kohli because scoring 70 hundreds is no small feat, only a great player can do this,” said Akhtar.

The third match of the ODI series between the Indian cricket team and the England cricket team will happen tomorrow at Old Trafford in Manchester. It will be interesting to see if Virat can end his drought of centuries tomorrow.
