Ashish Nehra backs Mohammed Siraj for South Africa Test series

Fast bowlers will once again play an important role in the South Africa series starting December 26. However, speculation continues as to who will be the third fast bowler of the Indian team, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami all but certain to play as the first two pacer.

While many are leaning towards Ishant Sharma’s experience and discipline, Ashish Nehra is no less a fan of Mohammed Siraj’s speed and ability to take wickets in difficult situations.

Former Indian bowler Ashish Nehra also praised Mohammed Siraj. While praising the depth of Indian fast bowling, he spoke of forming a team depending on the situation, but personally put Mohammed Siraj ahead of Ishant Sharma.

In an interview to Telegraph India, Nehra said that Shami and Bumrah will for sure be the first 2 automatic choices and opined that Mohammad Siraj could be the third bowler.

He continued that Ishant was injured and did not play in the second Test against New Zealand. Siraj, on the other hand, performed quite well in that match. But the whole thing will depend on what the team management is thinking and who has impressed captain Virat Kohli and Head Coach Rahul Dravid.

India tour of South Africa

Indian cricket team is set to play a 3 match Test as well as 3 match One Day Internationals series the African side. The series was eventually set to begin on the 17th of December with T20I series addition to the current itinerary.

However, things changed drastically due to the rising COVID-19 cases in the African countries. BCCI and Cricket South Africa revised the schedule and now the series will begin from the 26th December with the First Test Match in Centurion, while the T20I matches have been completely scrapped and might be played at a later date.
