As the buzz around the tournament grows, cricket experts and ex-players are sharing their thoughts on which teams might win and which combinations could shine. One of these experts is Adam Gilchrist, a former Australian cricket star, who has given his opinion on the top contenders for this major event.

During a recent event in Ahmedabad, Gilchrist shared his top four choices to win the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He mentioned India, Pakistan, Australia, and England as his top contenders for the prestigious tournament.

“I think India and Pakistan could feature, Australia and England are another two teams,” said Gilchrist.

Gilchrist stressed the significance of the upcoming ODI series between Australia and India as a crucial part of their preparations for the ODI World Cup. It’s worth noting that Australia had a recent 3-2 series loss to South Africa, which has raised doubts about their performance in the 50-over format.

India has won the ODI World Cup twice, with Kapil Dev leading the team to victory in 1983 and MS Dhoni repeating the feat in 2011. Pakistan and England each have one championship to their name, with Pakistan winning in 1992 and England in 2019.

In contrast, Australia is the most successful team in World Cup history, boasting five coveted trophies. They secured their victories in 1987 and achieved an unprecedented three consecutive wins in 1999, 2003, and 2007. Australia’s most recent World Cup win was in 2015.
