Another day, Another record: Babar Azam goes past Virat Kohli to achieve an all-time ODI feat in history

Pakistan thrashed Bangladesh in the opening encounter of the Super Four in the Asia Cup 2023 on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It was a one-sided win for the hosts, as they won by seven wickets with 63 balls to spare.

With this win, Babar Azam and his team have strengthened their position for a place in the final of the tournament. Pakistan has been playing the best cricket so far in this competition, and all the players, including Babar Azam, are in good form. Babar set the tone with a 151-run knock in the opening game against Nepal.

Though he couldn’t score much against Bangladesh and was dismissed for 17 runs off 22 balls. But despite a low score, he was able to surpass Virat Kohli to set yet another world record in ODIs. This time, he broke Virat’s all-time record for fastest 2000 runs as ODI captain.

Virat held the record for the fastest 2000 runs as ODI captain and did it in 36 innings. Babar has achieved this landmark in just his 31st innings, which is five innings less than the former Indian captain. AB de Villiers (41) and Michael Clarke (46) are next on the list.

Earlier, with a hundred against Nepal, Babar broke Hashim Amla’s record for the fastest 19th ODI ton. Babar did it in 102 innings, going past Amla’s 105. The Pakistani skipper is in the form of his life. His numbers in ODI cricket are just unimaginable.

He is currently the No. 1 ranked ODI batter in the world, and Pakistan is also the No. 1 ranked ODI team. His form is very important for his team going forward in the ongoing tournament and the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India. Pakistan will now face the Indian team in their next game of the Super Four on September 10 in Colombo.
