Spot fixing and Betting are two major concerns which spoils the integrity of any game. Over the 10 years IPL have faced these concerns. The Madras high court has issued a legal notice to BCCI to avoid Spot fixing and Betting.
The grand tournament is all set to begin April 7th which also remarks the re-entry of the teams Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The Madras High court has issued legal notice to BCCI stating about the betting issues and preventive measures that are required to eliminate such illegal activities which spoils the integrity of the game.
Various issues on spot fixing and betting have been found out over the years by the officials. As per the report in IBTimes, Sampath Kumar, Indian Police service Officer who was one of the members of the panel which investigated 2013 spot fixing mentioned in his public interest litigation stating that“vested interests still continue to be protected in the IPL””, and that “questions of conflict remain unaddressed” by the BCCI .
Proper Measures for Preventing such acts are not taken
On April 4 2013. The hearing of the spot fixing scandal took place which included the banned players like S Sreesanth were found guilty. After BCCI found them they involved in the scandal they banned them for life.
It was also reported that the Owners of CSK have direct contacts with the bookies. These activities
tells that BCCI is not effective in curbing those illegal acts as per Sampath Kumar, The Preventitive measures have not been effective. Hence the tournament has to be postponed, He further added.
