On Sunday, September 17, Mohammed Siraj became the talk of the town with a truly remarkable performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka. Despite a modest performance in the tournament leading up to the final, Siraj delivered a spell for the ages, claiming figures of 6 wickets for just 21 runs.
This achievement ranked as the fourth-best by an Indian bowler in ODIs and the second-best in Asia Cup history, including four wickets in a single over during his exceptional bowling display.
Siraj’s fiery spell, complemented by Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, led to Sri Lanka being dismissed for a mere 50 runs in just 15.2 overs. Team India effortlessly chased down the target in a mere 6.1 overs, concluding the match in just a couple of hours. The game did begin with a 40-minute rain delay, which meant it finished relatively early, even though it extended until 6 PM local time.
Mohammed Siraj garnered praise from leaders, former cricketers, actors, producers, and directors, all acknowledging his incredible performance. Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor also expressed her thoughts on Mohammed Siraj’s outstanding spell, but her perspective was quite different.
Taking to her Instagram story, Shraddha humorously wrote, “Now, ask Siraj what to do with all this free time.” This post quickly spread across social media, adding a touch of humor to Siraj’s stellar achievement.

During the post match presentation ceremony, Mohammed Siraj was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding spell. Indian chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav was named the Player of the Tournament for taking 9 wickets in 5 matches throughout the tournament.
With this ultimate win for the Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma, India’s lead as the most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup has extended further to Sri Lanka. Team India will next take on Australia at home in a pre-World Cup series starting from 22nd September. The following matches are on 24 and 27th September. India will also kick-off its ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign with a match against Australia on the 8th of October.
