The T20 World Cup 2022 is all set to get underway in Australia this month. With just a couple of days away, several former cricketers and pundits are giving out their verdicts on the tournament, like who will win it, who will score the most runs, and which two sides will take on each other in the finals.

West Indies giant batter Chris Gayle has also expressed his views on the showpiece event. He feels that Australia and West Indies will battle out for the title in the finals at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

“I think there could be a final match between West Indies and Australia,” Gayle told Dainik Jagran.

The 43-year-old also said that the absence of senior players like Kieron Pollard, DJ Bravo and Andre Russell will impact West Indies’ performance. However, he still believes that young players are equipped enough to be a threat to any team if they get their strategy right on D-Day.

“Yes, it is definitely that the players who are included in the West Indies team are talented and can prove to be dangerous for any team. As everyone knows it is just a matter of adapting your strategy in the right way on match day. I hope the team plays well.”

Shimron Hetmyer gets dropped

The West Indies board dropped the stunner when they decided to drop talented batter Shimron Hetmyer from the squad after he missed the rescheduled flight to Australia. They went on to name Shamarh Brooks as the replacement.

Considering the type of batter Hetmyer is, no one saw it coming. However, captain Nicholas Pooran has said that the team is not focusing on that matter as they want to achieve their primary target.
