The IPL 2024 auction was pretty massive, as it saw some record-breaking deals that hadn’t happened before. Mitchell Starc became the costliest player ever as he fetched the amount of INR 24.75 from the Kolkata Knight Riders. Pat Cummins got a deal of INR 20.5 crore from the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The third-most expensive player at the 2024 auction was Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell. Chennai Super Kings bought him at a price of INR 14 crore. He had a pretty good World Cup 2023 in India and scored two hundred in the competition against the hosts.

Mitchell will join the likes of Mitchell Santner and Devon Conway in the CSK camp. CSK will defend their title in the coming edition of the tournament and will look to win their sixth overall title. They have made a solid squad that can do it for them.

However, after joining the squad, Mitchell was very excited. Notably, he was registered with a base price of INR 1 crore and got 14 times his base price. The all-rounder went unsold in the previous auction, and it was a special moment for him after being picked by the most successful franchise.

In an interaction, Mitchell shared his excitement, saying it was a special night that he and his family will always remember. The all-rounders said, “It was obviously a pretty special night for us as a family. Your heart starts to pump a little bit as you see the paddles going up. But having been through the auction before and going unsold, it was a pretty special night last night to experience that.”

As soon as his name was announced, PBKS and DC started the bidding war. After one point, when the bid reached 12 crore, DC withdrew and CSK replaced them. PBKS made their highest bid of 13.75 crore, and CSK surpassed it with a winning bid of INR 14 crore to have the all-rounder. Notably, CSK also signed Rachin Ravindra (1.8 crore) to their squad along with Shardul Thakur (4 crore) and uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi (8.4 crore).
