According to reports from Rev Sports, Sri Lanka Cricket is expected to make an official announcement regarding this matter soon. The timing of this decision is drawing significant attention, as it is viewed as a significant setback for the Sri Lankan team in preparation for the prestigious event in India.

Shanaka, recognized as one of the most talented all-rounders in the squad, has been instrumental in shaping Sri Lankan cricket team into a formidable force, after all the veterans retired, making the decision all the more debatable.

Dasun Shanaka has played a key role in bringing glory days back to the Sri Lankan cricket team. Sri Lankan team was once one of the biggest cricket team in the world who were consistently doing well. They reached the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 against India, but unfortunately they lost the match.

However, after the veteran players like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Dilshan, Lasith Malinga etc retired from the game, Sri Lankan cricket went backwards trajectory. They had to go through the World Cup qualifier to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Sri Lankan was even at a worse situation when Sri Lanka really lacked quality players. That’s when Dasun Shanaka stepped-up, took the responsibility of the team and turned things around. Sri Lanka is once again producing good quality players and even beating the big teams like Australia, New Zealand etc.

However, things got worse for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final held in Colombo against India. The Indian bowlers bowled out the Sri Lankan XI for a mere 50 runs and chased down the target without losing any wickets in just 6.1 overs. This was a 50 overs match and Sri Lanka’s performance was not upto the mark. After the loss, there have been many talks about future of Shanaka as Sri Lanka captain.
