In a disappointing development for the Indian cricket team ahead of the T20I series against the Sri Lankan cricket team, the team’s pace-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar has sustained a hamstring pull. According to PTI, he looks doubtful for the T20I series against the islanders.

Chahar looked in fantastic touch during the 3rd T20I of the series between the Indian cricket team and the West Indies. He bowled well and picked up two wickets in his first 11 deliveries before walking off the field because of an injury. Venkatesh Iyer completed his over as Deepak did not bowl again in the match.

PTI reported that the extent of Deepak Chahar’s injury is not yet known. Depending on the damage, a call will be made on the fast bowler’s availability for the upcoming matches. Given that it is a World Cup year, the team management might consider resting Chahar for the series against the Sri Lankan cricket team, which starts this Thursday in Lucknow.

The Indian team will play three T20Is against the islanders on February 24, 26 and 27 before locking horns with them in an ICC World Test Championship series. After that, the players will participate in IPL 2022, followed by a home series against the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Deepak Chahar might have to fly to National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for rehab

The report further claims Chahar might have to fly to the NCA and undergo a rehab before making his return to the cricket field. Quite a few Indian players have recovered from their injuries by undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy recently.

In case if it is a Grade 1 tear, then it takes six weeks for a player to completely recover from the injury. In that case, Chahar will probably make his return to the field in the Chennai Super Kings jersey in IPL 2022.
