India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, Prithvi Shaw, has been reportedly retained by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. Despite a challenging campaign in IPL 2023, where he amassed 106 runs across eight matches with an average of 13.25, the Capitals’ think tank, as per reports from the Times of India, maintained their confidence in Shaw.

He secured retention before the mega auction at a significant price of INR 8 crore. Shaw, who faced setbacks due to a knee injury earlier this year while playing for Northamptonshire, missed a substantial part of India’s domestic cricket season.

However, there are expectations of his fitness for IPL 2024. The upcoming edition holds crucial significance for Shaw, with the emergence of his batchmates and young talents like Shubman Gill reaching greater heights since his introduction to international cricket.

All franchises are set to finalize their retained and released players by the IPL governing committee’s November 26 deadline. The subsequent auction, scheduled for December 19 in Dubai, will witness officials from all ten franchises gathering to compete for player acquisitions.
