Despite Consecutive Ducks, Rohit Sharma on cups of writing history in Third T20I vs Afghanistan

The first two matches between India and Afghanistan have ended in India’s favor. They have beaten Afghanistan comprehensively in both matches with the help of a young lot. A number of players have rose to the occasion and helped India win. However, Rohit Sharma has had a horrible series so far by his own standards.

The Indian captain has bagged consecutive ducks in the first two matches. Notably, he is playing T20Is for India after almost 14 months since the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. But his comeback hasn’t gone as expected for him individually.

On the other hand, Rohit has done a brilliant job as a captain and helped India win its 15th consecutive T20I series at home. The third and final game will be played on Wednesday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which is expected to be a run-feast.

The hosts will eye a 3-0 whitewash, as they have never lost a game against Afghanistan. With the form on their side, India will enter the game as a firm favorite. And if they can win the final game as well, Rohit will write history for sure. Though it is not related to his personal stats but to that of a captain.

Rohit has led India in 53 matches and won 41 games. In the last game, he equalled MS Dhoni for most T20I wins as an Indian captain. Dhoni led India to 41 wins in 72 matches. However, if Rohit can lead to a win in the third game, he will become the captain with the joint-most T20I wins in his career.

Currently, that record is held by Eoin Morgan (England), Babar Azam (Pakistan), Asghar Afghan (Afghanistan), and Brian Masaba (Uganda). All four captains won 42 matches for their countries under their leadership. Hence, we are more likely to see Rohit enter this elite club soon.
