Karthik is set to lead the Tamil Nadu cricket team in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, scheduled to commence on November 23. Although Karthik is currently part of the commentary team for the ICC World Cup 2023, he will transition back to active play once his broadcasting commitments are fulfilled.

The announcement of Karthik’s return to competitive cricket was made by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association on November 9. This marks his comeback to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, having last played in the 2022 edition. The 37-year-old cricketer, a veteran of the domestic circuit, brings a wealth of experience to the team.

Karthik’s most recent competitive cricket involvement was in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. Although he was part of the Indian T20 team, he was not selected after the T20 World Cup in 2022. His IPL season for the year also did not meet his expectations.

The upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 offers him an opportunity to regain form and rhythm ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Karthik has been a consistent performer for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, amassing 7358 runs in 252 List A matches, which include 12 centuries and 39 fifties.

While fulfilling his commentator role during the World Cup, Karthik expressed his desire to witness an India vs Pakistan semi-final clash, anticipating a thrilling showdown. India has already secured their spot in the semi-finals and is expected to top their group.

In contrast, Pakistan’s chances of qualifying is kind of impossible, especially after the New Zealand cricket team today beat Sri Lanka pretty convincingly, and have almost secured the Semi-final birth unless absolute miracle happens in the England and Pakistan match.
