James Neesham has expressed his unhappiness over the new rule introduced by the BCCI ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Rajasthan Royals all-rounder commented on the new rule which states that the new batter will take the strike after a caught out dismissal.

Previously, the rule was that if the batters cross ends while the ball is in the air before being caught, the new batter will be at the non-striker’s end. MCC recently recommended a change in the rules, and BCCI has adopted it. It will be applicable in IPL 2022, and there is no provision for a set batter to come back on strike if his partner got caught out.

ESPNcricinfo posted about the new rules on Twitter. Reacting to the new rule, James Neesham quoted the tweet and penned his thoughts. He mentioned that he could not quite understand meaning behind it. He did not like it as he felt that the batters will not get any advantage of being aware of the match’s situation.

“I don’t really understand the point of this. Has this rule ever been a problem? Also rewards batsmen who don’t stay aware of the match situation. Don’t like it,” wrote Neesham.

Fans explained James Neesham the reason behind the rule change

One of the main reasons behind the change in rule is that the bowling team will get an advantage if they dismiss a batter caught out. The new batter will face the next ball, and not the set batter.

This thing can be critical in the death overs. Also from an individual point of view, the bowler will have more chance of taking a wicket when bowling to a new batter rather than a set batter on the next ball.
