The Indian Premier League has always helped the Indian team find uncapped, hidden talent from every corner of the world. Over the years, this tournament has produced many youngsters who have proven their worth at the international level as well. Sai Sudharshan is also one such name.
Hailing from Tamil Nadu, the left-hander got his first chance in place of injured Kane Williamson in the opening game of the IPL 2023. He played a decent knock of 22 off 17 and impressed everyone with his temperament. After that, the Gujarat Titans showed trust in him.
And it paid off, and he played an unbelievable innings of 96 runs in the final of the tournament against the Chennai Super Kings. He was also among the highest scorers in the TNPL 2023 and is currently part of the India A team in the ongoing Emerging Asia Cup 2023.
Sudharsan has been in great form in the tournament and has scored 191 runs in four innings. He scored an unbeaten 101 against Pakistan A in the group stage. Talking to Star Sports, the left-hander credited MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli for his cricketing journey.
He said, “Everyone knows Mahi Bhai. Whenever I speak to him, he always insists to know more about yourself and what you can do for the team. That is more important than trying and doing something or being someone else. Virat’s mind is very strong. So, I want to take that trait from him.”
Sudarsan will be an important part of the team in the final of the Emerging Asia Cup against Pakistan A. He has done brilliantly at the domestic level as well. The left-hander had scored 598 runs at an average of 42.71 in 8 first-class games, with two hundreds and one half-century. Then, in 15 List-A games, he has scored 855 runs at 65.76 with a strike rate of 103.13.
