"Don’t spoil him, He will lose confidence after couple of failures"- Ex-Indian cricketer slammed India for using Suryakumar Yadav as opener

The Indian team lost the second T20 against West Indies on Monday in a low-scoring thriller. The Indian batting failed miserably and got all out for 138 runs, and couldn’t play their full quota of 20 overs. However, once again the visitors went with the same batting order, but it failed for the second successive time. Rohit registered a first-ball duck, while Suryakumar Yadav could only score 11 runs.

Shreyas Iyer failed once again and got out after scoring 10 off 11 balls. All in all, it was quite a bad performance from the Indian batting that resulted in losing the match. However, the batting position of Suryakumar Yadav has once again become the talking point after the game. The 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer, Kris Srikkanth, has slammed the Indian management for doing an experiment with his batting position.

Srikkanth reckons that the batter should play at his No. 4 spot, which is ideal for him. In a discussion on FanCode after the match, he said that India should try Ishan Kishan as an opener but don’t put SKY up the order. Because one or two failures will result in him losing his confidence.

The former cricketer said, “Suryakumar Yadav is a brilliant player at No.4. He should be batting at No.4 in the T20 World Cup. If you want someone to open, drop Shreyas Iyer and pick Ishan Kishan instead. What I am trying to say is simple…don’t spoil the cricketer like Suryakumar Yadav. Please don’t do that. I will tell you what will, after a couple of failures he will lose his confidence. Cricket is a confidence game.”

Earlier, former Indian batsman Mohammed Kaif had also expressed his worry over SKY doing the opener job. He said that the batter’s role is at No. 4 and even after Kohli and Rahul make their return to the team, SKY will be batting at the same position. Kaif also said that India should use Rishabh Pant if they want to try him as an opener and they should give him at least 5-6 games.

Kaif also said, “Whatever it was, I completely failed to understand it. But Pant should have been tried. Clearly, I did not understand what happened. Ishan Kishan is also waiting.” With the win, the hosts have levelled the series at 1-1. Both teams will now move to the third T20 to be played on Tuesday, August 2 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts.
