“No apology was offered for that” – Former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza accuses BCCI for DRS tampering

Hasan Raza’s recent allegations against the ICC and the BCCI have stirred controversy. He voiced concerns about the use of different balls for India, suggesting that this preference led to more seam and swing in their favor compared to other teams. Raza also cast doubts on the Decision Review System (DRS), stating that it has been manipulated to benefit the Indian team.

To illustrate his point, Raza mentioned the case of Rassie Van Der Dussen, who received an LBW decision against Mohammed Shami’s delivery. The on-field umpire initially ruled not out, but the bowling team opted for a DRS review, which ultimately overturned the decision, indicating that the ball would have hit the stumps. However, Hasan Raza disagreed with the decision, claiming that Jadeja had wrongly dismissed the batsman.

“We were talking about technology where the Decision Review System (DRS) was used. Van der Dussen was the batsman at that time, and it’s intriguing to see how a left-arm spinner’s delivery can turn and find its way back to the middle from leg stump. The impact was in line, and it seemed like the ball was heading towards the leg stump,” said Raza.

He reiterated his skepticism, emphasizing that the technology suggested the ball hitting the stumps when, in his opinion, it would have missed the leg stump. Raza highlighted historical incidents, including Sachin Tendulkar’s dismissal against Saeed Ajmal during the 2011 World Cup semi-final and an LBW decision that went against Pakistan in their recent match with South Africa.

The former Pakistan cricketer also talked about the Pakistan vs South Africa thrilling match that Keshav Maharaj won for the Proteas. He talked about the controversial DRS review during the match’s dying moments, “Speaking about Pakistan, take a look at how close the review was in the match against South Africa, particularly during the last-wicket partnership, and no apology was offered for that.”

The India vs South Africa match took place at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens Stadium, where India posted a total of 326 runs and then bowled out South Africa for just 83 runs in 27.1 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer, claiming five wickets for 33 runs in nine overs. Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami, both former Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers, each dismissed two South African batsmen.

Notably, Virat Kohli achieved his 49th ODI century during the match, equalling the all-time record set by Sachin Tendulkar in his illustrious 24-year international career for India.
