Rajasthan Royals chairman Ranjit Barthakur has revealed the team’s auction strategy, and how they formed a dream bowling lineup for IPL 2022. The IPL 2022 Mega Auction offered all franchises an opportunity to rebuild the squads. Along with the two new teams, it was an important auction for the franchises that had been underperforming over the last few seasons.
Inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals qualified for the playoffs in IPL 2018, but they failed to make it to the Top 4 in 2019, 2020 and 2021. In fact, in 2020, they finished at the last position for the first time in IPL history. So the mega auction was quite crucial for the Royals, and they made the most out of it by signing match-winners in the bowling department.
Many fans reckon that the Jaipur-based franchise has the strongest bowling attack in IPL 2022. They have leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult and right-arm fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. Even uncapped pacer Kuldeep Sen and left-arm fast bowler from West Indies Obed McCoy have done well for the Royals.
Speaking at a press conference, RR chairman Ranjit Barthakur admitted that it was a pre-planned strategy to sign the four names. Here’s what he said:
“Yes, it was pre-planned. We were fortunate that those players weren’t retained by their earlier companies. We put in the right strategy and got the right people and that’s what reinforced our bowling.”
Rajasthan Royals have almost qualified for the IPL 2022 Playoffs
Rajasthan Royals are third on the IPL 2022 points table right now with seven wins from 11 matches. They have a good net run rate, and if they win two of their next three matches, RR will make it to the IPL 2022 playoffs.
It will be the first time since 2018 that the Jaipur-based franchise will finish in the Top 4 of the points table. It will be interesting to see if they can make it to the next round.
