In the aftermath of India’s convincing victory over Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma openly discussed his on-field frustration directed at opening partner Shubman Gill. Reflecting on the incident, Sharma acknowledged the inevitability of such emotional outbursts in the heat of competition.
“Instances like these are part of the game. When they occur, it’s natural to feel frustrated, especially when you’re eager to contribute runs for the team. Not everything goes as planned, but the crucial thing is that we emerged victorious. I wished for Gill to continue, but unfortunately, he departed after a commendable brief innings,” Sharma explained.
Returning to T20I action after a 14-month hiatus, Rohit faced an early dismissal due to a run-out mix-up, contributing zero runs to the scoreboard. As the three-match series against Afghanistan stands as India’s final preparation before the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies, the team secured a six-wicket win in the opener held in Mohali.
Looking ahead, Rohit Sharma, serving as India’s skipper, expressed the team’s strategic approach to deliberately subject players to uncomfortable situations in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup.
Emphasizing the importance of experimentation, he stated, “We aim to explore various strategies, exposing our bowlers to diverse in-game scenarios. For instance, you witnessed Washi (Washington Sundar) bowling the 19th over today. We seek to challenge ourselves in areas where we might feel slightly uneasy, providing the bowlers with experiences they’re not accustomed to.”
