Once the most dangerous team the sport has seen in its early days, dominating the ICC Cricket World Cup. The team have had some of the greatest player ever to have graced the team.

But the West Indies cricket team has seen a massive slump in the performance over the last couple of year. The team failed to automatically qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to not being in the top 8 ranking and under the leadership of Shai Hope and Darren Sammy, the team took part in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier being played in Zimbabwe.

However, the team had a disastrous outing. In the first round, they finished 3rd with 2 wins and 2 losses in the 5 team group behind Zimbabwe and Netherlands. And in the ongoing Super Six round, West Indies have lost 3 back-to-back matches and finds themselves out of the race of the World Cup 2023.

They lost to both Zimbabwe, Netherlands and Scotland earlier today to confirm their failure to make it to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 India. This performance from the West Indies team has certainly shocked a lot, including India’s World Cup 2007 and 2011 hero Gautam Gambhir.

However, Gautam Gambhir hasn’t lost faith on the West Indies team. Taking to his official social media account, Gambhir posted that he still loves West Indies cricket and believe they can be number 1 team in world cricket.

The team had also failed to qualify for the Super 12 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, showcasing the downfall of the West Indies cricket. The Caribbean side will still play Oman and Sri Lanka in their remaining 2 matches of the qualifier but stands no chance to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
