He stated, “I’ve always maintained this, and there’s no doubt about it – if you want to claim the World Cup, you have to overcome Australia. In 2007, when we secured the World Cup, we triumphed over Australia in the semifinals. In 2011, when we clinched the World Cup again, we defeated Australia in the quarterfinals,” Gambhir affirmed, highlighting the pivotal role Australia plays in the quest for World Cup glory.

Gambhir continued to underscore the importance of India’s clashes with Australia in past World Cups. He emphasized that in the three World Cups that India emerged victorious, they had to overcome Australia in the knockout stage on two occasions.

Conversely, in the 2015 World Cup, where India faced defeat, it was at the hands of Australia. The former opener firmly believes that the pivotal path to victory in the upcoming World Cup hinges on triumphing over Australia. India begins its ICC Cricket World Cup camapaign against Australia on the 8th of October.
