In the aftermath of the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, Gautam Gambhir has unveiled a surprising revelation about his preferred batting partner in white-ball cricket. Contrary to popular belief, Gambhir disclosed that while many think Virender Sehwag was his favorite opening partner, it was actually skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Expressing his preference, Gambhir shared, “My favorite cricketing partner was MS Dhoni. People assume it was Virender Sehwag, but I truly enjoyed playing with Dhoni, especially in white-ball cricket,” as conveyed to Sportskeeda.

Highlighting a pivotal moment, Gambhir reminisced about the World Cup 2011 final against Sri Lanka, where he and Dhoni formed a crucial 109-run partnership for the fourth wicket at Wankhede Stadium. Despite Gambhir exiting the stage in the 42nd over after a commendable 97-run innings, their collaboration played a key role in India’s triumph by six wickets.

While acknowledging the collective effort of the team in securing the World Cup after 28 years, Gambhir didn’t shy away from praising Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Dhoni. He had previously stated that Dhoni could have achieved numerous records in white-ball cricket if he had continued batting at no.3 instead of altering his position.

“World cricket might have missed one thing – MS (Dhoni) captained India but didn’t bat at No. 3. If he had, we would have witnessed a completely different player,” Gambhir expressed on Star Sports, emphasizing the potential of Dhoni to flourish on modern flat wickets and pose a constant threat to bowling attacks.
