Gautam Gambhir needs no introduction to the game of cricket. In fact, he was one of the reasons that India did well at the biggest stages of the World Cup. Gambhir was the top scorer in both games when India won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup.

Apart from that, Gambhir is well known as a person who never shies away from giving his bold opinions publicly. But the former Indian opener revealed that there was a moment in his career when he even felt ashamed of himself.

Notably, Gambhir is one of three captains to lead an IPL franchise to multiple titles. He led KKR to win the 2012 and 2014 titles. But during the 2014 season, there was a moment when he was scared while batting.

In an interaction with RevSportz, Gambhir revealed that during the IPL 2014, he got out for three consecutive ducks, which put him under such huge pressure that he couldn’t dare face the first ball of the fourth game. He even requested his then-opening partner, Manish Pandey, to face the first ball.

Gambhir said, “The only time I felt pressure was in 2014, when I got three back-to-back ducks as KKR captain in Dubai. I asked Manish (Pandey) to open in the fourth inning and batted at No. 3 myself. I did this because I was scared. I have no hesitation in saying that I was ashamed of myself.”

He also added that Manish got out for a duck, and he has to come out at No. 3 with a score of 1. The former KKR skipper stated that these things make you strong mentally. He even recalled that in the next game against Punjab, he opened himself and smashed the first ball for boundary off Kane Richardson. It was the most valuable boundary of his IPL career.
