Team India faced Afghanistan in the second game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2024 in Delhi on Wednesday. The hosts earlier won their opening game against Australia in Chennai and succeeded in winning the second game as well. They beat Afghanistan by 8 wickets and 15 overs to spare.

It was a contest on the field, but there was another contest that was running on Twitter between two former cricketers. Former English captain Michael Vaughan reacted to the empty seats at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Twitter (now X). He tweeted, “Why so many empty seats in #Delhi for the India Game!?? #INDvsAFG.”

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was up to react to that. Bhajji, who was also a member of India’s World Cup-winning teams in 2007 and 2011, didn’t waste any time and replied, “Are you watching the game or the empty seats??”

Notably, it has become a hot topic of discussion among the fans that stadiums and seats have been seen empty during the World Cup matches. The stadiums have gathered a smaller crowd in non-Indian games, but it is totally different in Indian games. Speaking of the game, Afghanistan batted first after winning the toss.

India had a decent start, but the opposition pulled things back. Afghanistan posted a decent total of 272/8 in the first inning. It was their highest total in the World Cup games. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling with 4/38 in ten overs. When India came out to bat, both Indian openers took the bowlers apart and added 156 runs for the opening wicket in just 18.4 overs.

Rohit Sharma smashed India’s fastest World Cup hundred off just 63 balls. He made 131 runs off 84 balls, with 16 fours and five sixes. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 54, and India made 273/2 in 35 overs to win the game. India will be playing its next game on October 14 against Pakistan in Ahmedabad, which will have more than 120,000 people in the stadium.
