Team India’s T20 World Cup campaign has hit a roadblock after the first two games. Considered as one of the favourites to lift the trophy, Team India almost stands eliminated out of the competition. That said, there is still a mathematical chance for India to qualify to the semifinal of the T20 WC. In this article, we take a look at the two criteria for India to qualify to the semifinal of the T20 WC that is happening right now.

Team India must win remaining games with a heavy margin

Having lost to Pakistan by ten wickets and then to New Zealand by eight wickets, India needs a big turnaround against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia. They not only have to win those games but also need to do it with a heavy margin. While the matches against Scotland and Namibia look relatively easy for the Indians, the one against Afghanistan could be tough, especially since India is under pressure. Moreover, both Mujeeb and Rashid are in top form, and India could face some trouble.

Both Afghanistan and New Zealand must not score more than 6 points

The second condition is that both New Zealand and Afghanistan cannot have more than six points if India has to qualify to the next stage. Hence, the game between New Zealand and Afghanistan will be extremely crucial for India’s chance. If the Kiwis win that game, unless an unrealistic miracle happens, India is out of the tournament. Of course, India has to win against Afghanistan in the first place.

For India, things are pretty simple now. They must earn big wins in their next three encounters and hope for the Afghans to defeat the Kiwis. If either one of them does not happen, India will be knocked out of the tournament. As things stand, Afghans defeating New Zealand looks unlikely and hence, India might have to swallow the tough pill of an early elimination.
