The Indian selection committee announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday. The announced squad was pretty similar to those that are part of the Asia Cup 2023, with a few omissions. It saw Tilar Varma and Prasidh Krishna get dropped.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson, who is part of the touring reserve for the Asia Cup, also didn’t get a chance. Suryakumar Yadav retained his place despite not having good ODI stats. KL Rahul, who hasn’t played a game, also got a chance in the team.

On the other hand, India also didn’t pick an offspinner and went with Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja in the spin departments. Many felt that India could’ve gone with Ravi Ashwin in the squad. Some fans also felt disappointed by Samson’s snub from the team.

But everything is not gone. India has picked a 15-member squad for the mega event, and this team will feature in the coming ODIs before the World Cup starts. In between, if they want, they can make necessary changes in the squad in case of any injury or problem with the form of any place.

The last date to submit the final sheet to the ICC is September 27. It means that the Indian team can still make changes to the squad. Before that, India will play in the Asia Cup and the three ODIs against Australia. According to a report by the Indian Express, Samson along with Ashwin and Prasidh Krishna will be Indian reserve players for the World Cup.

Samson is a backup keeper and can bat as a finisher. It means he can replace KL Rahul or Suryakumar Yadav if things turn differently. India will be traveling a lot in the World Cup, and there is a possibility of injury, which is why they will require injury cover.
