The Indian cricket team is currently on a remarkable streak. Following their exceptional performance at the Asia Cup 2023, where they were led by Rohit Sharma and secured a dominant 10-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in Colombo in the Final, they are entering the cricket World Cup with a strong sense of confidence.
Their success in Asia Cup 2023 Final was propelled by Mohammed Siraj’s outstanding bowling performance, which restricted the Sri Lankan team to a mere 50 runs in 15.2 overs. This was complemented by the contributions of their fellow pacers Hardik Pandya (3 for 3) and Jasprit Bumrah (1 for 23). India achieved the target with 10 wickets in hand in just 6.1 overs.
Simultaneously, Pakistan claimed the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings on the same day when South Africa defeated Australia in the fifth ODI. However, India may soon replace them as the No. 1 ranked team, provided certain conditions align.
India’s next ODI match is scheduled for Friday against Australia. The outcome of other matches involving England, Ireland, Bangladesh, and New Zealand won’t impact India’s ranking.
If India manages to defeat Australia in the upcoming ODI, they will ascend to the No. 1 position. Even if they secure a series victory with a 2-1 scoreline, they will retain their status as the No. 1 ODI team going into the mega cricket event.
The Indian cricket team will play Australia in a 3 match ODI series starting from the 22nd of September, followed by 24 and 27th September. Team India will also open its ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on the 8th of October before the big match against Pakistan on the 14th of October.
