India announced a second string squad for the ODI series as World Cup-bound players left for Australia in order to prepare for the T20 World Cup. Though Shaw was part of India’s group for the New Zealand A series, he was overlooked for the South Africa series. Shikhar Dhawan is leading an inexperienced group of players against the Proteas.

Shaw expressed his disappointment over the snub as he is working hard and scoring runs to make a comeback in the national team. But he is also willing to work harder and wait for his time to get a call back and then perform at his level best.

“I was disappointed,” Prithvi Shaw told mid-day. “I am scoring runs, doing a lot of hard work, but not getting a chance. But, it’s alright. When they [national selectors] feel I am ready, they will play me.”

“Whatever opportunities I get, whether it is for India ‘A’ or other teams, I will make sure I do my best and keep my fitness levels up to the mark.”

The right-handed batter talked about how he lost weight during the IPL to bring his fitness to the next level. He also revealed that he has given up sweets and cold drinks alongside Chinese food, which he loves to eat.

“I worked on weight loss and reduced it by seven to eight kgs after the last IPL. I spent a lot of time in the gym, did a lot of running, didn’t consume any sweets and cold drinks. Chinese food is totally out of my menu now,” he added.
