The Chennai Super Kings have announced captain MS Dhoni, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, batter Ruturaj Gaikwad and off-spin bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali as their four retained players ahead of IPL Auction 2022. The decision to leave out Faf du Plessis has surprised many fans. However, it seems CSK are not seeing him as a future captain. According to the team’s released player Robin Uthappa, CSK are looking at someone else as the next captain.

Robin Uthappa played a huge role in the Chennai Super Kings’ fourth championship win in the year 2021. The right-handed batter played two crucial knocks in the playoffs and the final to help the Chennai-based franchise become the winners. While he has not retired yet, Uthappa appeared on Star Sports as a cricket expert and shared his views on the player retention.

The Chennai Super Kings did not retain Robin Uthappa, but it seems likely that the franchise will go for him at the mega auction because he performed so well. Another thing is that Robin shared his views on the next CSK captain. Fans would have noticed that the captain MS Dhoni is not the first name on the retained players list. It is Ravindra Jadeja.

“I am sure that is MS Dhoni’s doing itself. He knows the value that Jadeja has to the unit. I think from what I understand, Jadeja might be someone who could end up leading the squad in the future as well when MS Dhoni retires. They have given him the due he deserved,” Robin Uthappa was quoted as saying.

Will Ravindra Jadeja become the next CSK captain?

Robin Uthappa has slightly hinted that Ravindra Jadeja will lead the Chennai Super Kings next. Only time will tell if Jadeja will lead CSK soon or will Dhoni continue playing for more seasons and captain the Super Kings.
