“I have been very impressed with his leadership”- Lucknow franchise owner reveals why he named KL Rahul captain

Lucknow IPL franchise has grabbed the headlines by signing three big names ahead of the mega auction. The Uttar Pradesh-based team has signed wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul for INR 17 crore. Rahul will lead the team. The franchise have also signed Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and uncapped leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.

During the Star Sports Selection special show, the Lucknow IPL franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka appeared and explained why he signed KL Rahul. Although Rahul does not have a great record as IPL captain and Indian captain, Goenka heaped praise on his leadership skills.

Rahul has been phenomenal as a batter in the tournament. He won the Orange Cap in IPL 2020 and was one of the highest run-getters in the 2021 season as well. Here’s what Goenka had to say about Rahul:

“KL is not only an outstanding batsman but also a great wicketkeeper I have been very impressed with not only his batting and wicketkeeping, but also his leadership skills. He is evolving, growing, maturing as a leader. He is somebody I would have wanted to lead the team.”

Lucknow franchise owner feels KL Rahul will emerge as a remarkable leader

Sanjeev Goenka further added that he believes Rahul would keep the team’s atmosphere positive. He concluded by saying that the former Punjab Kings captain will emerge as a remarkable leader in the Indian Premier League.

Fans should note that Rahul led the Punjab Kings team in 2020 and 2021 seasons. His personal performances with the willow were impressive. However, the Mohali-based franchise did not qualify for the playoffs in both seasons. It will be interesting to see how the Lucknow-based team performs under the captaincy of Rahul. According to reports, IPL 2022 will begin on March 27, with Mumbai and Pune expected to be the co-hosts of the entire competition.
