Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra shared his opinion of the squad announcement from BCCI for the approaching ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the South African cricket team. The selectors have given a chance to IPL stars like Venkatesh Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the KL Rahul-led outfit.
Aakash Chopra analyzed the squad and said that he was happy to see Shikhar Dhawan in the squad. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that the Indian cricket team will likely have Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in the Top 3.
Chopra further added that he was not surprised to see the name of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the squad. In case you didn’t know, Gaikwad won the IPL 2021 Orange Cap while playing for the Chennai Super Kings and then ended as the top run-scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 while playing for Maharashtra.

Aakash Chopra said that with the depth the Indian cricket team has in the ODI squad, it is highly unlikely that Ruturaj Gaikwad will feature in the playing XI for the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the South African cricket team. The former India batter said:
“His (Ruturaj Gaikwad’s) name being there is a thumbs up. It was expected that his name will come but whether he will get a chance to play or not, I have no clue. It is slightly difficult, let’s be honest because KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Iyer, SKY, Pant – there is no place for Ishan Kishan as well. Venkatesh Iyer is also already there down the order.”
It will be interesting to see if Ruturaj Gaikwad gets a chance to play for India. He had played two T20Is against Sri Lanka last year, where he scored 35 runs at an average of 17.50.
