Afghanistan’s rising star Karim Janat has expressed his desire to play as a batter like Rohit Sharma and as a bowler like Shoaib Akhtar. Indian cricket team captain Rohit is reckoned by many as one of the best batters in world cricket right now, while former Pakistan cricket team bowler Shoaib holds the record for the fastest delivery in international cricket history.

In a recent interview with Cricbuzz, Karim Janat said that he has always idolized Rohit Sharma. But since he is an all-rounder, he was asked if there is any other cricketer whom he idolizes as well. Here’s what he said when asked if he idolizes Rohit:

“I really like two players one is Shoaib Akhtar and another one is Rohit Sharma and I want to be a mix of them.”

I have started ignoring red-ball cricket: Karim Janat

During the same interview, Janat said that he has excellent records in first-class cricket and wants to play Test cricket as well. However, the Afghanistan cricket team does not receive enough opportunities to play in the longest format of the sport. Even leg-spinner Rashid Khan has mentioned the same thing in some of his interviews.

“I like first-class cricket. But we play very few Test matches so I have started ignoring red-ball cricket and I have requested (the board) more than once that they should not consider me for Test cricket because we hardly play it,” Janat added.

Many cricket fans would know that Karim Janat is the younger brother of former Afghanistan cricket team skipper Asghar Afghan. Janat is yet to play in the Indian Premier League, but he has the experience of playing for Colombo Stars in Lanka Premier League and Commilla Victorians in Bangladesh Premier League. He has played 70 T20 matches in his career, scalping 67 wickets and scoring 1,112 runs.
