Chennai Super Kings tried out some new players during the IPL 2022 season. They showed faith in uncapped leg-spinner Prashant Solanki this year. Before IPL, Solanki had not played much domestic cricket, but he was with Chennai as a net bowler, which is why the team signed him for the IPL 2022 tournament.

Solanki warmed the benches for the initial games. The uncapped leg-spinner made his debut in the final phase of the league stage. His most impressive performance came in the final league game against the Rajasthan Royals.

Even though Chennai Super Kings failed to beat the Rajasthan Royals, the performance from Prashant Solanki was one of the positives for the team. Solanki bowled only two overs, but he picked up the big wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer. Fans should note that Solanki went for 20 runs in those two overs, but captain MS Dhoni’s insights helped him achieve success eventually.

“In the second game, I came in to bowl a bit late. I was hit for a six off my first ball. Then he (Dhoni) gave me an indication that I have to pull my length back and keep it a little shorter. Let him play strokes on the bigger end. Then I was successful,” said Solanki.

Chennai Super Kings are likely to retain Solanki for the next season. It will be interesting to see how many wickets the uncapped leg-spinner takes for the Chennai-based franchise. Chepauk might host CSK’s home matches during IPL 2023, which is why Solanki could be one of the main players for CSK.
