He started the current test series against India in fifth place. However, his 507 runs in three Tests against India enabled him to overcome Virat Kohli, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Williamson.

Root smashed three consecutive centuries in Nottingham, Lord’s, and Leeds respectively to see himself regain the throne. He is 15 points ahead of second-placed Williamson with rating points of 916, which is just one point less than his career-high rating. Root achieved the rating of 917 in 2015 and is now close to breaking his own record.

Rohit Sharma overtakes Virat Kohli at the No.5 spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings

Rohit Sharma has displaced Virat Kohli to move up to the fifth position in the ICC Test Rankings. Kohli has slipped to the sixth position after a dismal run with the bat. This is the first time in five years, Kohli has moved out of the top 5.

Rohit Sharma currently has 773 points, which are seven more than Kohli’s 766 points. This is also the first time since November 2017 that Kohli is not the top-ranked Indian batter. In the previous occasion, it was Cheteshwar Pujara who was ahead of the Indian skipper at the second position.

Pujara’s knock of 91 in the previous Test saw him reach the 15th position, whereas Pant slipped to the 12th position from eighth.
