After registering a thrasing win by five wickets in the first ODI against Australia in Mohali, Team India has thumped the visitors in the second ODI as well. They crushed Australia by 99 runs (DLS method) in the second ODI on Sunday at Holkar Stadium in Indore.

It was another comprehensive win for the hosts, as they have won the series 2-0 with one game left to be played on September 27. The game started with Australia winning the toss and deciding to bat first. But the decision didn’t end well for the visitors.

Though India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (8) cheaply, then came a 200-run partnership for the second wicket between Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer off just 163 balls. Both batters scored a century as well. Gill scored his sixth ton and scored 104 off 97 balls, with six fours and four sixes.

Iyer, on the other hand, made 105 off 90 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes. KL Rahul (52 off 38) and Ishan Kishan (31 off 18) also did well. In the end, Suryakumar Yadav showed his T20 game and smashed an unbeaten 72 off 37 balls.

India registered their highest ODI score of 399/5 in the first inning. The ground was short, and it looked like Australia would challenge in the chase. But it didn’t happen. Both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin took six wickets in between them. Ashwin took 3/41, and Jadeja picked up 3/42. Australia got all out for 217 and lost the game.

Ashwin dismissed David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, and Josh Inglis to break the backbone of the Australian batting line-up. Many former cricketers and cricket pundits praised the veteran off-spinner. Even Yuzi Chahal, who was ignored from the World Cup squad, lauded Ashwin on social media.

He took to Twitter (now X) and wrote, “Ravichandran Ashwin name is enough @ashwinravi99 #Legend.” Chahal was also dropped from the Asia Cup 2023. On the other hand, Ashwin, who was not part of the Asia Cup, was given a second chance in the ongoing series against Australia. It will be interesting to see if he can make it to the World Cup or not.
