Rohit became the first Indian cricketer and only the third player worldwide to hit 50 or more ODI sixes in a single calendar year. Prior to this, only AB de Villiers of South Africa and the West Indies’ legendary Chris Gayle had managed to achieve such a feat in the same time frame.

Rohit’s achievement came when he struck a powerful six off New Zealand’s fast bowler, Matt Henry, in just the second over of India’s pursuit of a 274-run target.

Before India’s innings, Daryl Mitchell showcased his batting prowess by scoring a magnificent century, leading New Zealand to a total of 273 runs in their top-of-the-table clash in Dharamsala.

Although New Zealand lost their openers early, Mitchell’s partnership with Rachin Ravindra, who contributed 75 runs, proved to be crucial, as they added 159 runs to steady the innings. This partnership between Mitchell and Ravindra broke records as the highest partnership for any wicket between the two teams in a World Cup, surpassing the previous record set by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth in 1987.

In the later stages of the match, fast bowler Mohammed Shami played a significant role in helping India regain control, finishing with impressive figures of 5-54 in his first appearance at the tournament.

Virat Kohli was the main man behind India’s successful chase as he scored 95 runs and missed out on a century by just 5 runs. Rohit scored 46 runs while lower down the order, it was Ravindra Jadeja who was brilliant. He scored 39 runs and took India to their 5th win in the tournament.
