After a comprehensive evaluation period, the official schedule for the 2023 ODI World Cup has been unveiled. On August 9, the ICC made public the newly updated fixture list. The inaugural match, set for October 5, will witness Australia competing against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The grand finale is earmarked for November 19 at the same venue.

Spanning over 10 different venues within India, the World Cup will accommodate a total of 10 teams. Among these, eight teams secured direct berths based on their rankings in the ODI Super League, while the remaining two teams qualified through the World Cup Qualifier held in Zimbabwe earlier this year.

The schedule’s delayed announcement can be attributed in part to the ongoing tensions between the BCCI and the PCB. At a certain juncture, the PCB had even raised the possibility of withdrawing from the World Cup.

Nevertheless, the revised schedule has been officially released, with noteworthy adjustments to the date and location of the anticipated India vs Pakistan match.

The clash between India and Pakistan has been rescheduled to take place on October 14, on Saturday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Originally set for October 15, the adjustment was made due to concerns over security during Navratri, a Hindu festival, as voiced by the local police.

Previously, the Pakistan Cricket Board had expressed reservations about playing in Ahmedabad and had also requested venue swaps for their matches against Australia and Afghanistan. However, the ICC has adhered to the original draft of the schedule.
