India wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha to leave Bengal, set to join Tripura in a new mentor-cum-captain role

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on July 2 to leave the team. Let us tell you that Saha had demanded NOC from the association after some conflict between himself and the CAB. Now he will be playing as a mentor-cum-captain for Tripura from next season.

CAB joint secretary Debrata Das had earlier questioned Saha’s commitment to state cricket. He had said that he felt saddened by the statement after playing for the state for so many years and giving his best.

CAB said in the statement regarding Wriddhiman Saha that, “Mr Wriddhiman Saha came to CAB and sought NOC from the association in the application given to President Avishek Dalmiya. CAB agreed to Saha’s request and granted him NOC to play for another state.” Along with this, CAB also wished him all the best for his future.

Saha was reportedly in talks with a few other cricket boards apart from the Gujarat and Baroda cricket boards after the controversy broke out, but both the boards denied his offer. He was eventually inducted by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA).

Talking about Saha’s performance, he has played a total of 122 matches in first-class cricket in which he has scored 6423 runs at an average of about 42. He has also scored 38 fifties and 13 centuries. His highest score is 203 runs not out. He has played domestic cricket for Bengal throughout his career.

Internationally, Saha has played 40 Test matches for Team India, in which he has scored 1353 runs at an average of 29.41. It also includes 6 fifties and 3 centuries. He was considered one of the best wicketkeeper in the world after MS Dhoni retired. However, with him aging and new faces coming through, he was shown the door.

Saha played for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2022. He batted well in number of matches while opening for the franchise and won the team their first IPL trophy in their debut campaign. He scored 317 runs in 11 matches in which his highest score was 68 runs.
