Bangladesh cricket team will play a Test series against India for the first time in five years. The last time Bangladesh visited India for a Test series was in 2019, where the Indian cricket team bulldozed them by 2-0. In that series, the second Test was a pink-ball game.
It was a historic match because it was the first time India played a day/night Test match. India comfortably won that Test, thanks to the fast bowlers. Here’s a look at India’s playing XI from that Test and where the players are now.
Openers – Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma
Mayank Agarwal opened the batting with Rohit Sharma for India in that game. Agarwal has lost his place in the Indian team now, while Sharma is the captain in Tests and ODIs.
Middle Order – Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (wk) and Ravichandran Ashwin
India played with two spin-bowling all-rounders, three specialist batters and a wicketkeeper in the middle-order. Captain Virat Kohli led the team from the front by scoring a century. He became the first Indian to score a ton in a pink-ball match.
Pujara, Rahane and Saha are no longer members of the Test squad. All of the senior pros have been dropped. Jadeja, Kohli and Ashwin continue to be an integral part of the Test squad. They are even a part of the Test squad for the upcoming Test match.
Bowlers – Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav
It was a rare home Test match for India, where the opponent team lost 20 wickets, and the pacers bagged 19 out of them. Spinners bagged zero as Mahmudullah was retired out in the second innings.
Sharma, Shami and Yadav annihilated the Bangladesh batting lineup at the Eden Gardens that day. The pace trio is no longer together as Sharma and Yadav have been dropped. Shami is recovering from injury and is expected to make a Test comeback soon.
