T20 World Cup 2024 is just seven months away. The mega event will take place in West Indies and USA next June. It will be the first edition of the T20 WC to be co-hosted by West Indies and USA. West Indies hosted the tournament in 2010, but USA will host for the first time.

Inaugural champions India will be the favorites to win the competition. They have one of the strongest T20I teams in the world. Here’s a look at India’s potential playing XI for the mega event in West Indies and USA.

Openers – Rohit Sharma (c) and Virat Kohli

Rohit Sharma should be the captain of the Indian team. He led the team to semifinals of T20 World Cup and finals of WTC and ODI WC. His opening partner should be Virat Kohli, who has done a phenomenal job at that position for RCB. Shubman Gill can be the backup opener.

Middle Order – Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (vc), Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar

India should groom players like Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma as the finishers. Sharma can also keep the wickets. World number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav can bat in the top-order along with vice-captain Hardik Pandya. The conditions in West Indies will be slow.

Hence, India should go with two spin-bowling all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. Axar Patel can be the backup option.

Bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal

India should prefer having a right-arm left-arm combination in the pace attack. Arshdeep Singh, who was impressive in T20 World Cup 2022, can partner with Jasprit Bumrah. Yuzvendra Chahal, who is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20i cricket, should be recalled for the T20 World Cup 2024 because he is a wicket-taking bowler.
