During the second match between the two teams, the 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman opened for India in Bridgetown and displayed exceptional form, securing his second consecutive ODI fifty on Saturday (July 29).

In the previous series opener, Ishan had impressed with a 46-ball 52 runs. This time, he outdid himself, hammering 55 runs from as many balls at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Unfortunately, despite his efforts and Shubman Gill’s contribution of 34 runs, India faced a shocking defeat, as they were bowled out for just 181 runs in 40.5 overs.

During his splendid knock in the second ODI, Ishan Kishan hit six fours and one six, achieving a monumental feat by surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Ishan now holds the top spot on the list of opening batters for India, having scored the most runs for the Men in Blue after five innings, with 348 runs to his name. Next on the list are Sachin Tendulkar with 321 runs, Shubman Gill with 320 runs and India’s 1983 World Cup winning member Krishnamachari Srikkanth with 261 runs.

Additionally, Ishan became only the second Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to achieve two consecutive ODI half-centuries against the West Indies in the West Indies, following in the footsteps of MS Dhoni, who accomplished the feat during India’s tour in 2017.

With Team India’s defeat in the second match, the third and final ODI of the series, scheduled for August 1st at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad, will determine the winner of the series. The match is set to commence at 7 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
