The vice-captain of the Indian Test cricket team, Ajinkya Rahane, has had a tough time in the middle this year. He has not scored a century since the hundred against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last year. Looking at his numbers in Test cricket this year, fans come to know that Ajinkya has scored 411 runs in 21 innings at an average of 19.57. Naturally, there are questions about his position, but coach Rahul Dravid has backed him.

The ongoing year has been Ajinkya Rahane’s worst ever in his Test career. Never in his Test career has he had a year where his batting average was less than 20. In the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series between the Indian cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team, Ajinkya Rahane led the team in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli.

Fans expected Rahane to lead the team from the front. However, the right-handed batter failed to impress. Debutant Shreyas Iyer scored 170 runs in the Test at Green Park, and now some fans think Iyer should take Rahane’s position when Virat returns for the Mumbai Test.
