Jasprit Bumrah Equals Unique Record of Kapil Dev following 5-wicket haul vs South Africa

Team India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets for India in the first inning against the hosts South Africa in the Cape Town Test.

Playing the 27th Test match of his career, the fast bowler now has taken 5 wicket hauls for the 7th time. As such, he has now equaled the world’s great all-rounder and former India captain Kapil Dev and former fast bowler Irfan Pathan. Before Bumrah, both these bowlers had also taken 5 wicket haul 7 times each by the time they finished their 27 Test match.

28-year-old Bumrah took 5 wickets for 42 runs in the first innings of the Cape Town Test. Jasprit Bumrah with that has also become the third Indian bowler to take 5 wickets in Cape Town.

Earlier, Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh had taken 5 or more wickets in the 2010-2011 Test. Sreesanth had taken 5 wickets for 114 runs in during that test series, beside that, Harbhajan Singh had also taken 7 wickets for 120 runs during the series.

Thanks to Bumrah’s excellent performance, India bowled out South Africa for just 210 runs. Earlier, India had scored 223 runs in their first inning, thanks to the excellent innings of 79 runs by India’s captain Virat Kohli.

India took a 13-run lead on the basis the bowlers’ great showing with the ball. After this, till the end of the day’s play, Team India added 57 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, taking a 70-run lead over the hosts.
