Former England captain Kevin Pietersen praised the 28-year-old’s performance but suggested improvement. Pietersen shared on X, “I like Nandre Burger. I like his pace a lot. The only thing I’d like even more is if he didn’t smile as much and got more aggressive! Smiling at batters gives them a small win every single time. Bowl fast, seriously fast and DO NOT smile after most deliveries!”

Burger made a significant impact in the 10th over, claiming his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both Burger and Jaiswal are set to play for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, as the team acquired Burger for ₹50 lakh in the recent IPL 2024 auction.

Continuing his impressive spell, Burger also took the wicket of Shubman Gill, limiting the right-hander to just two runs. With Pietersen’s advice, Burger aims to bring more aggression to his bowling and make a lasting impact in Test cricket. Nandre Burger, who also plays for CSK’s sister team Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 League, bowled 15 overs and took 2 wickets for 50 runs on the 1st day of play as the stumps were called early due to rain as Indian batters returned back to pavilion 8 down for 208 runs with KL Rahul unbeaten after scoring 70 runs.
