The Indian cricket team achieved a historic win over the England cricket team in the 2nd Test match of the five-match series as Lord’s, taking a 1-0 lead in the series in the process. While the whole team contributed to the win, from the batsmen to bowlers to fielders, the Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul set up the foundation for Team India.
KL Rahul scored a brilliant hundred (129) in the 1st inning, while Rohit Sharma missed out on a magnificent hundred after being dismissed for 83 runs. Former cricketer and now an analyst, YouTuber, and commentator Aakash Chopra believe KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will remain India’s opening pair in Test cricket even after the England series.
In the latest video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra was questioned by a fan about who could be the Indian team’s openers after the England series, the former Kolkata Knight Riders batsman shared, “Rohit and Rahul. Rohit and Rahul in T20 cricket as well, Rohit and Dhawan in ODI cricket.”
He also mentioned that there are no questions about changing the opening pair unless anything unfortunate, like injury or out form. He continued saying that how both of them batted in the 2nd Test and their combination, they both are expected to open for India shortly as well and also added that players Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill would have to do a lot of work while Prithvi Shaw is below them in the pecking order.
Let us also remind you that injuries to both Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal lead to the promotion of KL Rahul to open the inning, which he has been doing for his domestic team Karnataka, while Prithvi Shaw is present in England; he will just act as a backup.
After a big win by 151 runs in the 2nd Test, in which KL Rahul was named Man of the Match, India and England will meet again for the 3rd Test from August 25th.
