Team India suffered a big defeat in the first test against South Africa on Boxing Day in Centurion. South Africa outplayed the visitors and registered a win by an inning and 32 runs. India completely surrended in the game and couldn’t compete with the bat or the ball.
India came with the hope of winning their first ever test series in South Africa, but the result in the first test was totally different. After a horrible defeat, India faced a lot of criticism. Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth slammed the team and called them overrated.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said that India is overrated in the longest format. He also said that there are a number of players who have underperformed but are still part of the team, while performers like Kuldeep Yadav are not getting the chance.
Srikkanth said, “In T20 cricket, India is highly overrated. Test cricket: we are overrated. We have to make sure… I think it was a phase of 2-3 years… when Virat Kohli was the captain of the team, we were outstanding.”
Former opener also said that under Virat Kohli, India achieved a lot in test cricket. They won in Australia and England. After the defeat in the first test, Rohit Sharma said that India know how to win in SENA countries and would deliver a good performance.
However, Srikkanth highlighted that India won in SENA countries 18 months before, and that came when India did well and Rishabh Pant was performing. The former opener added that India can’t talk about what happened two years ago; if you want to succeed, you need to beat big teams at their home.
Notably, India has now lost four consecutive games in SENA countries. They will now face South Africa in the second and final test, starting on Wednesday (January 3) at the Newlands in Cape Town.
