ODI cricket has become a batter-oriented game now. The batters have scored heaps of runs in this format. There was a time when scoring 100 in an ODI match was considered a big achievement, but these days, the batters are even scoring 200 runs in a single ODI game.
So far in cricket history, many batters have accomplished the feat of scoring a 200 in an ODI match. Except Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Ireland, South Africa and England, all Test-playing nations have at least one double centurion.
1. 1st player to score 200 in ODI cricket – India’s Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar was the first batter in cricket history to score 200 runs in a 50-over men’s one-day international match. Tendulkar scored 200* against South Africa in a bilateral ODI game of 2010.
2. Latest player to score 200 in ODI cricket – Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka
Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka has become the first player from his nation to score an ODI double ton. He scored 210 runs against Afghanistan in the ongoing ODI match.
3. Pakistan – Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar Zaman is the only cricketer from Pakistan to have scored a double ton in the ODI format. Zaman accomplished the feat against Zimbabwe in the year 2018.
4. New Zealand – Martin Guptill
Kiwi opener Martin Guptill is the only batter to score a double hundred in a knockout match of World Cup. He scored 237 runs against West Indies in the quarterfinals of the 2015 WC.
5. West Indies – Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle was the first West Indies cricketer to score 200 runs in an ODI innings. He also achieved it in the 2015 WC, but it was in a group stage match against Zimbabwe.
6. Australia – Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell is the only cricketer to hit a 200 in the second innings of a one-day international match. Maxwell smashed 201 runs in a heroic effort against Afghanistan in the 2023 WC.
