The two-match ICC World Test Championship series between South Africa and New Zealand will take place this month. Even before the first ball of this series was bowled, there has been a massive controversy because of the squad named by the South African board.
The Proteas have sent an inexperienced team to New Zealand because the top names of the nation are busy playing in the T20 league named SA20. As a result, a ‘B’ team of South Africa will take the field against New Zealand in away conditions.
The interesting thing about this series is there are three players, who were born in South Africa, but they will represent the Blackcaps against their own nation. Here’s a list of the three names.
1. Devon Conway was born in South Africa but plays for New Zealand
Known for his consistency at the top of the order, Devon Conway has been a prolific performer for the Blackcaps. Not all fans would know that Conway grew up playing domestic cricket in South Africa and dreamt to play for the Proteas one day. However, upon not getting chances, he sold everything he had and started a new life in New Zealand.
2. Glenn Phillips
Glenn Phillips is a wicketkeeper batter, but if needed, he can be the best fielder on the ground and also a spinner with a golden arm. Phillips was born in South Africa as well, but the all-rounder dons the Kiwi colors at the international level.
3. Neil Wagner
Veteran left-arm fast bowler Neil Wagner was also born in South Africa. Wagner has been a cornerstone of the New Zealand Test team for a long, long time now. He is playing the final few matches of his career, and he would like to give his 100% in the upcoming Tests.
