Nicholas asked Amla as to which bowler challenged him the most in Test cricket. To this, the former South African skipper replied with Mohammad Asif’s name. He said that he was a “magician with the ball”. Amla revealed that he “was the toughest to face” and that he failed to pick him. Coming from a batsman of Amla’s stature, it is surely a big compliment for Asif.

Mohammad Asif’s career went downward due to controversies

Asif played 23 Tests, 38 ODIs and 11 T20Is for Pakistan. In his relatively short career, the Pakistan pacer troubled top batsmen, including the likes of AB de Villiers. However, controversies played a huge role in him having to cut his career short.

While the spot-fixing controversy brought down the curtains, he had previously been involved in other off-field issues, as well. Asif is currently not active in the game.
