Mitchell McClenaghan call India vs New Zealand as meaningless series

Out of favour New Zealand left-arm pace bowler Mitchell McClenaghan has called India vs New Zealand T20 series as meaningless series, replying to a social media comment.

India and New Zealand is currently playing a 3 match T20I series in India. After the conclusion of the first 2 matches of the series, India has won both the matches, therefore have also won the series with 1 match still to go.

Mitchell McClenaghan had posted a tweet on his Twitter handle, talking about AB de Villiers‘ retirement from all forms of cricket. Below that, a fan commented about New Zealand losing the T20I series against India.

Replying to that comment, Mitchell McClenaghan stated the series as a meaningless series. He also mentioned how New Zealand played in this series just 3 days after losing T20 World Cup 2021 final to Australia.

He also mentioned that New Zealand played 3 matches in 5 days against a team who got 10 days of rest after India got knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2021 from the Super 12 round.

The series for India, marked a new beginning as Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid as Indian team captain and Head Coach from Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri respectively.

India won both the opening 2 matches of the series, therefore, with 1 match to go, India have won the series. However, even though India have won the series, it was the New Zealand cricket team who got the better of Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2021, when the Kiwis defeated India by 8 wickets.

Before that, the New Zealand team defeated India in the Final of the inaugural World Test Championship, and even before that, New Zealand had knocked India out of the Cricket World Cup in 2019, when India lost to New Zealand in the Semi-Final.

India is currently leading the T20I series against the Blackcaps and the 3rd and the last match of the T20Is will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on the 21st of November.
